The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested 121 motorists for committing 214 traffic offences during its ongoing Operation Total Compliance across Anambra State.
The enforcement exercise, conducted as part of a nationwide road safety campaign, aims to improve compliance with traffic regulations and reduce road crashes.
Major Traffic Violations RecordedSpeaking during the operation in Awka, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, represented by the Officer-in-Charge of Motor Vehicle Administration, DCC Gloria Ezeugwu, said the three-day exercise was carried out simultaneously across the FRSC’s 12 operational zones.
According to the command, officers recorded several traffic violations, including: 27 motorists arrested for overloading.34 motorists cited for violating speed limiting device regulations.10 motorists caught driving without valid driver’s licences.
Four motorists arrested for attempting to bribe FRSC officials. Two motorists each arrested for dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The command noted that additional traffic offences accounted for the total of 214 violations recorded during the operation. FRSC Warns Against Unsafe Driving The FRSC said the operation is focused on tackling dangerous driving practices such as overloading, mixed loading and speeding, which are major causes of road accidents.
The agency warned motorists against transporting passengers alongside goods or animals, describing the practice as unsafe and capable of causing fatal crashes.
Officials also raised concerns over drivers who disable installed speed limiting devices to exceed approved speed limits.
Motorists Urged to ComplyThe FRSC urged road users to obey traffic laws and develop safer driving habits ahead of the busy ember months, when road traffic and accident risks typically increase across the country.
The agency added that improving road safety requires cooperation between motorists and enforcement authorities.
