The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has described the three-year achievements of the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as comparable to what some governors accomplish in eight years.
Sadik Yelwa stated this on Monday when he received a delegation of media aides to the Kebbi State Government, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, on a courtesy visit to his residence in Abuja. The HYPPADEC boss said the achievements recorded by the Kaura administration within just three years demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the development of the state.
He particularly highlighted the administration’s interventions in agriculture, education, infrastructure, industrial development and security. According to him, the Governor’s agricultural interventions have significantly supported farmers across the state through the distribution of free fertiliser, water-pumping machines and other farm inputs.
He said the administration had also encouraged farmers to return to their farms by improving access to agricultural support programmes and introducing interventions that provide farmers with access to financing. “You can see that this administration has encouraged farmers to have access to their farms. It has also introduced agricultural interventions that give farmers access to loans and other forms of support,” he said.
On education, Alhaji Yelwa described the sector as one of Governor Nasir Idris’s major areas of commitment, noting that the administration had invested significantly in primary, secondary and tertiary education across the state. He said the people of Kebbi State had witnessed significant improvement in the sector under the present administration, particularly through the prompt payment of the state’s counterpart funding to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), which he said had strengthened the implementation of educational programmes in the state.
The HYPPADEC Managing Director also commended the administration for its commitment to the timely payment of scholarships to indigenous students studying in various tertiary institutions, including those studying outside Nigeria. He further noted that industrial development remained an important component of the Governor’s agenda, adding that the administration had continued to encourage investors to explore opportunities in Kebbi State. “You can see the way investors are coming to Kebbi State to invest in areas such as solid minerals, agriculture and other sectors,” he said.
Alhaji Yelwa also commended the administration’s achievements in road infrastructure, citing the Zuru–Koko–Dabai road, Birnin Kebbi township roads, Yauri township roads and Argungu township roads, many of which are complemented by street lighting projects. He equally acknowledged the administration’s efforts in strengthening security across the state, particularly through collaboration with security agencies and efforts to establish military formations in areas affected by insecurity.
He noted that the recent deployment of additional troops to Kebbi by the Federal Government was further evidence of the ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the state. “With all these achievements, Governor Nasir Idris deserves a second term. We want him to contest for a second term because of his goodness and kindness. He is a listener; he listens to the people of Kebbi State,” Alhaji Yelwa said.
Earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, expressed appreciation to the HYPPADEC Managing Director for the warm reception accorded the delegation. He also briefed the HYPPADEC chief executive on some of the achievements of the Governor Nasir Idris administration and the government’s continued commitment to the development of Kebbi State.
