The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has described the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, as a generous, hardworking and visionary leader with the charisma, character and capacity to lead Kebbi State for eight years.
Governor Zulum made the remarks on Sunday when the Kebbi State Governor’s media aides, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Maiduguri. He noted that Governor Nasir Idris possesses the essential qualities of effective leadership, describing him as a trusted and accommodating leader who is committed to uniting people and advancing the interests of his state.
“I knew him during the campaign period of my second term. He is a comrade that I honour and respect. He is also a trusted man who accommodates people with one mind,” Zulum said. He noted that leadership requires sacrifice, dedication, courage and the ability to unite people across political, ethnic and other divides, stressing that Governor Idris had demonstrated these qualities in his leadership of Kebbi State.
Governor Zulum also expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded by the Kebbi State Government, particularly in the area of security, noting that he was familiar with the challenges confronting the state because Borno State faces similar security concerns. “I know the efforts of the Kebbi State Governor because in my state, I also face the same problem, which is a big task ahead of us,” he said.
The Borno Governor recalled his visit to Kebbi State last year, saying he was impressed by the pace of development and the transformation taking place across the state. He specifically commended Governor Idris for what he described as significant strides in education, the construction of a new modern state secretariat, unprecedented investment in education, agriculture and healthcare, road infrastructure, construction of one of Nigeria’s best central motor park and massive empowerment programs targeting farmers, the youths and the elderly.
According to him, the projects have direct impact on the lives of the people and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance. Governor Zulum therefore urged the people of Kebbi State to support continuity in governance, stressing that allowing Governor Idris to complete eight years in office would give him the opportunity to consolidate on his achievements and further improve governance across all sectors.
“The people of Kebbi State should support him to complete his eight years, which will give him the opportunity to continue with his good work and ensure sustainable growth in all sectors,” he added. He further described Governor Nasir Idris as a leader endowed with good manners, wisdom and the ability to foster unity among the political class.
Governor Zulum stressed that political unity remains essential to sustainable development, noting that Kebbi State was benefiting from Governor Idris’s inclusive approach to governance. Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, thanked Governor Zulum for receiving the Kebbi media delegation and for the warm hospitality extended to them.
He explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between Kebbi and Borno States, while providing an opportunity for the Kebbi media team to understudy Borno State’s approaches to governance, particularly in the areas of security management and public communication.
The Commissioner noted that the traditional institution in Borno had also demonstrated the strength of the relationship between the two states, recalling that the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al-Amin El-Kanemi, had conferred the prestigious traditional title of Zannan Borno on Governor Nasir Idris.He described the honour as a symbol of the enduring friendship, collaboration and unity between the people and governments of Kebbi and Borno States.
Alhaji Ahmed also highlighted some of the achievements of the Nasir Idris administration, including the construction and renovation of mega schools, road infrastructure, healthcare facilities and the free distribution of fertiliser to farmers, among other interventions. He noted that many of these initiatives mirror the development priorities of the Kebbi State Government, particularly in education, infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and human capital development.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Zulum for his commitment to strengthening inter-state collaboration and for providing an opportunity for the Kebbi media team to learn from Borno’s experience in governance and security management. The Commissioner of Information was accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alh Yahaya Sarki, the Special Adviser on New Media, Alh Aliyu Bandado Argungu, the Special Adviser on Strategic Communication, Alh Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Alh Ibrahim A Jombali and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Ahmad Idris.
