US Embassy, Consulate in Nigeria to Close Temporarily for Independence Day

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced a temporary closure in observance of the U.S. Independence Day holiday.

In a statement released on Thursday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria said both diplomatic offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, to mark the national celebration.

The announcement, shared through the mission’s official social media platforms, noted that regular embassy and consular services including visa appointments and other public facing operations will be suspended for the day.

Normal services are expected to resume after the holiday.U.S. Independence Day, widely known as the Fourth of July, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, when the thirteen American colonies formally declared their independence from British rule.
