The controversy surrounding the alleged N1.3 billion fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal has deepened following the reported arrest of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi’s father by the Nigeria Police Force.
Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the council, is currently standing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.
The Federal Government has also listed several senior officials as prosecution witnesses in the case. According to reports, police officers arrested Adeyemi’s father during a visit to the family home in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The arrest has sparked criticism from legal practitioners and human rights advocates.Senior lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) condemned the arrest, arguing that Nigerian law does not permit the arrest of a relative in place of a suspect.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) also stated that such an arrest would only be lawful if Adeyemi’s father was himself a suspect or a person of interest in the investigation.
The case has intensified public scrutiny of the alleged fake government agency and renewed calls for transparency and accountability in the ongoing investigation.
