President Bola Tinubu has retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation over a possible change to the party’s ticket.
The decision was confirmed after the APC received the completed presidential nomination forms for Tinubu and Shettima ahead of the deadline for the submission of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The nomination forms were presented on behalf of the Presidency by the President’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, during a ceremony attended by senior APC officials, governors, lawmakers, and other party leaders.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed confidence in the party’s chances of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election, saying the administration’s achievements would earn it greater support from Nigerians.
Sources within the party said Shettima’s nomination effectively confirms his place on the APC ticket, as he can only be replaced if he voluntarily withdraws from the race.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reiterated that political parties must submit the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates within the stipulated deadline, warning that any party that fails to do so will be excluded from the affected elections.
The commission is expected to publish the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates after the nomination process is concluded.
