The Kwara State Police Command has launched a homicide investigation after a Kwara farmer was killed in the Isin Local Government Area of the state. The victim, Azeez Garba, was found hacked to death on his farmland.
Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to immediately take over the case. He ordered the department to deploy all available investigative and intelligence resources to identify and arrest those responsible for the murder. Police Public Relations Officer Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi contained the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday.
How the Kwara Farmer Was Found Killed
Adekimi described the killing as cruel, senseless and unacceptable. He assured residents that the command would leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The statement said the Commissioner ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of Garba. Searchers discovered his lifeless body on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in the Isin Local Government Area.
According to police, preliminary findings showed Garba left home for his farm but failed to return. His family and local vigilantes then launched a search. Searchers later found his motorcycle parked on the farm, while they discovered his lifeless body a short distance away, bearing deep machete wounds.
No Arrests Yet as Investigators Pursue Leads
The command said officers had made no arrests yet, but assured the bereaved family and the public that investigators were pursuing every available lead. Investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure they identify and bring to justice everyone connected to the crime, the statement said.
The development comes days after the deceased’s family appealed to security agencies to investigate the killing and prosecute those responsible.
Daughter Demands Justice
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Garba’s second daughter, Abdulazeez Rofiat, said her father left home for his cocoa farm but never returned. She said local hunters later found his body in nearby bush after discovering his motorcycle at the farm.
“We want those responsible for this terrible crime to be identified, arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” she said. “My father deserves justice, and our family deserves answers. We will continue to seek justice until those responsible are held accountable.”
