The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) says it has uncovered 29 allegedly forged government documents linked to the operations of the unestablished agency.
The committee also directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to produce the self-acclaimed Director-General of the council, Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, before lawmakers within 48 hours. The directive was issued on Monday during the committee’s resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly in Abuja after members received evidence from representatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
Representing the IGP, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi disclosed that the police had already filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi before the Federal High Court following investigations prompted by petitions from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. Abdullahi, however, cautioned lawmakers against requesting information that could interfere with the ongoing criminal case.
“The Nigerian Police Force investigated part of this case late last year and filed eight-count charges before a Federal High Court. The case is ongoing,” he said. He confirmed that Adeyemi had been arrested and arraigned, adding that the police would avoid making statements capable of influencing the judicial process.
The police also confirmed receiving a petition dated October 17, 2025, from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, alleging that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
Investigators further revealed that another petition accused Adeyemi of using the alleged office to secure accommodation at the Federal Secretariat, seek approval to recruit about 300 personnel, pursue a ₦1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act for the agency, and plan a World Investment Summit under the council’s name.
During the hearing, lawmakers examined signatures on documents purportedly issued from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. When asked whether the signatures matched verified official documents, the police representative responded that they did not. Reacting to the development, the committee chairman, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, said the findings reinforced suspicions that official government documents had been forged.
He disclosed that the committee had identified about 29 allegedly forged documents, including purported approvals from the State House, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and several other government institutions.
According to Gagdi, representatives of many of the affected agencies had already appeared before the committee and denied issuing the documents in question. He explained that the committee had deliberately avoided compelling the police to disclose sensitive details that could undermine ongoing investigations.
The committee subsequently directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi before lawmakers by 12 noon on Wednesday. Gagdi said Adeyemi’s appearance was necessary to clarify issues surrounding the documents and protect the integrity of the institutions and individuals involved without affecting the ongoing criminal proceedings.
The House committee is investigating how the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, despite not being legally established, allegedly secured office accommodation within the Federal Secretariat and obtained a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
