New station set to strengthen public enlightenment, security awareness and community engagement across Northern Nigeria
BIRNIN KEBBI, NIGERIA — The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has officially commissioned LEAD FM 91.1 Birnin Kebbi, Nigeria’s first radio station dedicated exclusively to crime watch broadcasting.
The historic event brought together members of the Kebbi State Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, heads of security agencies, media executives, business leaders and other distinguished guests, marking a significant milestone in the country’s media and security communication landscape.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of LEAD FM 91.1, Alhaji Dahiru Hassan Kera, described the launch as the beginning of a new chapter for broadcasting in Kebbi State and Northern Nigeria.
He said the station was established to educate, inform, empower and inspire communities through responsible broadcasting while promoting public enlightenment, credible journalism and sustainable national development.
“Lead FM 91.1 is more than just another radio station. It is a platform established to educate, inform, empower and inspire our communities through responsible broadcasting.”
According to him, the station will serve as a reliable platform for credible news dissemination, promotion of government policies and developmental programmes, security awareness campaigns, education, healthcare advocacy, agriculture, entrepreneurship, cultural preservation and youth empowerment.
He added that LEAD FM 91.1, a subsidiary of Prime Image Global Services Limited, is committed to strengthening public trust through factual reporting while contributing to national development and public safety.
Alhaji Kera expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for honouring the organisation by commissioning the station and commended his administration’s commitment to media development and good governance.
He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Board of Directors, management, technical team, staff, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), security agencies, traditional institutions and development partners whose support made the project a reality.
A New Era of Crime Watch Broadcasting
Delivering his address, the Chairman of the organisation, Alhaji Shuaibu Mungadi, described the inauguration as a landmark achievement not only for Optimal Image Media Services Limited but also for Nigeria’s media and security sectors.
He explained that LEAD FM 91.1 was established in response to Nigeria’s growing security challenges and the urgent need for the media to assume a more proactive role in crime prevention through education, awareness and responsible journalism.
According to him, modern security challenges require innovative media solutions capable of bridging the communication gap between citizens and security agencies.
“LEAD FM 91.1 is not a station for sensationalism; it is a station for solutions.”
He noted that the station’s mandate includes educating the public on crime trends, security awareness and prevention strategies, partnering with law enforcement agencies and community leaders, broadcasting emergency alerts, promoting successful security interventions and encouraging citizens to report criminal activities through anonymous tip lines and investigative programmes.
Building Nigeria’s First Integrated Crime Watch Media Network
Alhaji Mungadi further disclosed that LEAD FM 91.1 is a subsidiary of 3rd Eye Africa Television, Nigeria’s first dedicated Crime Watch television station headquartered in Abuja.
He revealed that the organisation is establishing Nigeria’s first integrated Crime Watch Media Network, comprising 3rd Eye Africa Television in Abuja alongside LEAD FM stations in Birnin Kebbi, Gusau and Katsina.
According to him, the network is strategically positioned across Nigeria’s North-West geopolitical zone to support public enlightenment, strengthen collaboration with security agencies and contribute to national peace and stability.
Commendation for Governor Nasir Idris
The Chairman congratulated Governor Nasir Idris on what he described as remarkable achievements in improving security and accelerating development across Kebbi State.
He thanked the governor for supporting the establishment of LEAD FM 91.1 and for personally commissioning the station.
On behalf of the Board, management and staff of Optimal Image Media Services Limited, Alhaji Mungadi also congratulated Governor Idris on his 61st birthday, praying for continued good health, wisdom and greater accomplishments.
He further appreciated the Emir of Argungu, security chiefs, traditional rulers, veteran journalists, partners and invited guests for their support and participation in the historic occasion.
