Veteran Nollywood actor and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66. His death was announced by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who shared the burial arrangements on Instagram. According to the announcement, the actor’s remains will be taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony will be held on Monday at the Pavillon in Ilaro.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also announced that burial prayers would take place at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground at 10 a.m., with the Chief Imam of Ilaro expected to lead the prayers. Hassan’s death was confirmed by several sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood.
The actor’s passing came only days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed publicly for medical assistance for their father. They revealed that he had been battling stage-four cancer and that doctors had told the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition.
Taiwo Hassan was one of the respected figures in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema. Over the years, he built a reputation through his acting and screenwriting and became widely known by his nickname, Ogogo. His death has prompted tributes from colleagues, fans and other prominent Nigerians, who have mourned the loss of one of the veteran figures of Yoruba Nollywood.
He is survived by his family, colleagues and loved ones, who are expected to gather in Ilaro for his final rites on Monday.
