Huawei Nigeria has called for stronger and more secure network infrastructure to support Nigeria’s digital transformation, artificial intelligence adoption and the growing use of connected technologies across businesses.
The call was made at the Huawei Nigeria IP&OpticX Club 2026, held on August 21 at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. The event, themed “Secure Networks Powering Nigeria’s Digital Future,” brought together stakeholders from government, financial services, hospitality, small and medium-sized businesses, technology firms and other sectors.
Huawei’s Chief Technology Officer for ICT Marketing and Solution Sales in Sub-Saharan Africa, Matamela Mashau, said modern networks are evolving beyond basic connectivity to become intelligent infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of digital services.
The company showcased technologies including next-generation wireless connectivity, security systems and automated network fault resolution. According to Huawei, these solutions are designed to improve network reliability, security, operational efficiency and user experience.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Network Administration and Support Unit at the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Oteniya Olorunlani, said the state government was focused on promoting public-sector innovation and expanding the benefits of digital technology across society.
He explained that Lagos’ digital development agenda is guided by the Lagos State Development Plan 2052, with digital government and smart-city development among its key priorities.
The event also highlighted growing collaboration between MTN Nigeria and Huawei. Taiwo Abigael, a Solution Design Engineer at MTN Network Enterprise Service, said the partnership is helping Nigerian businesses access dedicated connectivity and network coverage services.
Huawei said such partnerships could make it easier for enterprises to develop secure, reliable and intelligent digital infrastructure.
The event ended with a commitment from Huawei Nigeria to continue working with customers and technology partners to introduce innovative solutions that can support digital transformation across different sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Huawei’s Director of Enterprise Network Solution Department, Tulin, said the increasing pace of digital transformation means reliable and secure networks are becoming essential to the operations of businesses and organisations across Nigeria.
