ABUJA — September 7, 2026: Members of the former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as positive developments in the inclusion of former ANPP members in the administration and the party’s leadership structure.
The group made the position known in a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting held on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Westpoint Hotel, Abuja.
The meeting reviewed the outcome of an earlier meeting held on November 3, 2025, during which the former ANPP members presented a number of requests to President Tinubu concerning the political interests and representation of the bloc within the APC.
Among the demands was increased inclusion of former ANPP members in government through appointments as board chairmen, ambassadors, ministers and heads of government agencies and departments.
The group also called for the Vice Presidential position to remain with the former ANPP bloc, which it described as the second-largest contributor to the formation of the APC.
Another major demand was that the APC should consider handing the presidency to the former ANPP bloc in 2031, following what the group described as the rotational contributions of the legacy parties that formed the APC.
According to the communiqué, the former ANPP members had urged their members across the country to remain patient and supportive of the Tinubu administration while awaiting action on their requests.
The group said it was encouraged by the retention of Vice President Kashim Shettima, whom it identified as a prominent figure from the former ANPP bloc, as President Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
It also cited the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, as Director-General of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council, as well as the designation of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as Deputy Director I, North, among developments it considered favourable to the former ANPP bloc.
The group described the developments as evidence that President Tinubu was responsive to its concerns.
“We make bold to say that there are positive developments and that our President, Ahmed Asiwaju Tinubu, GCFR, is a listening father of the nation,” the communiqué stated.
The former ANPP members, however, said they were still looking forward to greater representation of their members in key government positions.
They also reiterated their request that President Tinubu support a presidential candidate from the former ANPP bloc to succeed him in 2031.
Despite the outstanding demands, the group pledged its “maximum support” for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We do promise him our maximum support and to our Party for victory during the 2027 elections,” the communiqué stated.
