Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have rescued the abducted Secretary of the Kibiya Local Government Area (LGA) in Kano State following a targeted security operation in Rano.
Security sources stated that the council official was kidnapped several days ago at his residence in Kibiya. The armed men reportedly demanded a ransom of N100m for his release.
Intelligence-led operation
Investigations indicated that the kidnappers allegedly tracked the victim through insider information believed to have been provided by a local resident. Intelligence reports also suggested that the suspects were linked to criminal elements operating from Rijana, an area previously associated with criminal activities along the Kaduna–Abuja corridor.

Acting on credible intelligence, DSS operatives traced the kidnappers’ hideout in Rano and carried out a coordinated raid in the early hours of Tuesday.
Rescue and arrests
During the operation, a gun battle reportedly broke out between security operatives and the suspects. The DSS team succeeded in rescuing the victim alive, while two members of the gang were arrested. However, two other suspects escaped with gunshot injuries and are currently being tracked by security agencies.
The rescued official is in stable condition and is receiving medical attention ahead of his reunion with family members.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling insecurity in the state, pledging to intensify measures aimed at curbing kidnapping and other criminal activities.
